How it works

Here are the steps to making the most of the outdoor area during a session at The Yard. Newcastle Makerspace:

  1. Welcome and Outdoor Briefing:

    • Upon arriving, receive a warm welcome and a brief orientation to the outdoor area by our staff.

  2. Explore Outdoor Stations:

    • Take a moment to explore the various outdoor stations, including the mud kitchen, loose parts area, and any other designated zones.

  3. Review Safety Guidelines:

    • Before engaging in any outdoor activities, review the safety guidelines provided by our staff.

    • Ensure you understand and follow proper safety practices for each outdoor station.

  4. Choose Your Outdoor Adventure:

    • Decide which outdoor activity appeals to you the most. Options may include mud kitchen play, loose parts exploration, or other designated outdoor crafts.

  5. Mud Kitchen Play:

    • If interested in the mud kitchen, experiment with creating potions, dough, or oobleck using natural ingredients.

    • Enjoy the sensory experience of mixing and crafting with mud kitchen materials.

  6. Loose Parts Exploration:

    • If opting for loose parts play, gather a variety of materials from the loose parts area.

    • Use these materials to build, create, and explore your own outdoor inventions.

  7. Start Playing and Creating:

    • Dive into the outdoor adventure with enthusiasm.

    • Whether it's crafting in the mud kitchen or building with loose parts, let your imagination guide you.
